strong foundations
Mastering the fundamentals in any situation lays the platform to excel and when the basics go out the window, the rest usually falls apart pretty quickly too. Taking our time to build strong foundations can seem repetitive, arduous and unrewarding.
It is, however, these foundations that we will return to time and again to reset and reassure us that we know what we’re doing. The more faith we have in our ability to do the basics well, the more likely we are to build confidence and as our confidence in ourselves grows, the possibilities become endless.

move freely
The moments in sport which usually capture the imagination are more often than not times when athletes seem to transcend the sport they are participating in and move into a whole other plane of consciousness. Moments that seem completely unimaginable and leave us wide eyed with our heads in our hands.
We can achieve these moments too. They might not seem quite as extraordinary but building on a platform of structure, effort and intention can give us the chance to try our hand at virtually anything, doing things we never thought were possible and experiencing our own moments of euphoria because we can’t believe what has just happened.

soul food
Movement is often cited for its benefits to both our mental and physical health. If I’m feeling stuck, a quick walk or training session usually has me firing again and I enjoy the responsibility of taking care of my body daily as it feels like it not only serves me but those around me too.
There are many occasions that physical exertion feels like so much more than just taking care of my mind and body though - like I am accessing a deeper level of myself. I have trained people who have wept while lifting heavy weights or can’t put into words the extent to which their new relationship with exercise has changed their lives. Creating a strong bond with movement whilst enjoying whatever version of it suits your personality, goals or lifestyle can feed your soul… and that can only be a good thing.
